‘Offensive’ message on Whatsapp group lands 25-year-old in jail
Bijnor: Posting an allegedly offensive message on a WhatsApp group landed Raj Kumar in jail after one of the members in his group took umbrage and complained to the police.
Bijnor SP Kalpana Saxena said, “Kumar had sent a message which was offensive to the minority community.”
A case under various sections of IPC, including IPC section 66 (Description of imprisonment for non-payment of fine), 295 (Injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class), 295 A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 298 (Uttering, words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person), 449 (House-trespass in order to commit offence punishable with death) and 500 (Punishment for defamation) were filed against him, Saxena added.

Police also detained Whatsapp group administrator Ankit Sharma. He was allowed to leave after a warning.
